Karim Benzema was called back to the French national team after a long time without receiving a call from the state. He admits that the current squad for Les Bleus is very tough.
Benzema was recalled to the French national team by coach Didier Deschamps ahead of Euro 2020. The Real Madrid star last appeared on the international stage in October 2015.
Benzema's comeback in the French national team occurred in a test match against Wales, Thursday (3/6/2021). The 33-year-old striker started the match which France won 3-0.
Karim Benzema actually had a chance to score in his comeback match, when he stepped up as the executor of the French penalty in the 27th minute. However, his shot can be pushed over by the Wales goalkeeper, Danny Ward.
Despite failing to score, Benzema is quite satisfied with his performance with the French national team. He considered his current team-mates to be very strong on all fronts.
"This is a very strong team, whatever in the line, be it in goal, at the back, in midfield and in attack.. with players at the best clubs in the world," Benzema said, quoted by Marca.
"So talking about favorites is more of a saying out there. We know how strong we are in this team, although we have to show it anyway."
"It's obviously special, but then I focus on what happens on the pitch. I try to enjoy what I like like in Madrid, and contribute more to my team," Karim Benzema revealed.
